Temples of East India

East India has some of the best temples of this country. These temples represent various regional styles of architecture. Temples in this region represent various sects of Hinduism and Buddhism, besides Sikhism. Each sect has its own school of thought and these thoughts are represented very beautifully by these sublime pieces of architecture. 
Some of the famous temples of  East India are
Lord Jagannath temple at Puri Jagannath Temple is one of the most renowned as well as the biggest temples of Orissa. The temple located at a distance of 60 km from Bhubaneswar is dedicated to Lord Krishna
Sun temple at Konark The most notable marvel of Orissan art is the stately Sun Temple of Konark, Built in AD 1250. The entire temple complex in Konark was designed in the form of a huge chariot drawn by seven spirited horses on twelve pairs of exquisitely carved wheels. The sanctum symbolises the majestic parade of the Sun God and marks the apex of the Orissan architectural style.
Lingaraj temple at bhubaneswar also known as the Bhubaneshwar temple is one of the most famous religious places  of Orissa.  Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the 'lingam' here is one of a kind such that half of it represents Lord Shiva while the other half is symbolic of Lord Vishnu. 
Maha Bodhi Temple located in Bihar is considered among the oldest in Indian sub-continent temples. The temple is jewel of architectural superiority and expertise. The Mahabodhi Temple Complex is one of the four holy sites related to the life of the Lord Buddha, and particularly to the attainment of Enlightenment. The temple is located near the spot where Gautama Siddhartha had attained enlightenment.
Kamakhya Temple  situated in Assam is one of the biggest Shakti shrines in the whole of India and also serves an important pilgrimage center for the tantric worshippers as well as the general Hindus. It is a place where the beliefs and practices of the Aryan communities coincide with those of non-Aryan communities, in Assam.
Dakshineshwar Kali Temple   dedicated to goddess Kali is located on the bank of the river Ganga near Bally Bridge in West Bengal. The main temple houses an idol of Goddess Kali on a silver lotus with thousand petals. There are twelve spires known as Navratna Temple and a courtyard surrounded by 12 other temples dedicated to Lord Siva. Shri Shri Ramakrishna, the great 19th century religious thinker attained enlightenment in this temple.
